A POSTPARTUM DOULA
*Provides nonjudgmental support and education to families after the birth of their child(ren).
*Provides non-medical care in the home that is peaceful and nurturing.
*Assists the family with a smooth transition into parenthood, whatever their unique situation may be, to emerge content, connected, and confident in their new roles.
AS A POSTPARTUM DOULA I
*Offer companionship.
*Offer errand running, meal preparation, light household tasks and organization.
*Specialize in first time mothers and nontraditional families.
*Support a mother’s/partner’s transition back to work outside the home.
*Do my best to ensure that the new mother is rested and relaxed.
*Try to lighten the load that new mothers inevitably feel.
*Provide referral information when appropriate.
*Assess the needs of the new mother and family from conversation and observation, and I am flexible to these needs.
