Layla Mairleitner

I have been working as an in-hospital doula since 1998. I was inspired by the natural homebirth of my daughter in 1998 and another successful homebirth in 2007 of my son. I was also inspired by the nurturing, supportive and comprehensive care provided by my midwives.

My training includes the Labor Assistants Training Workshop in 2000 through ALACE (The Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators) followed by a 3 year apprenticeship with an experienced doula/midwife.

In 2006 I completed the Heart and Hands begining and advances Midwifery Intensives Training/Doula Certification with midwife and author Elizabeth Davis. In 2006 I also participated in a 40 hour course and became certified as a Lactation Educator.

I am also a massage therapist specializing in pregnancy massage. Massage is often integrated as a labor comforting measure. My passion is in educating and supporting women and their partners in finding strength and trust in themselves and in the normal birthing process. I feel it is important to keep birthing families informed of all of their labor and birthing options.

I believe that the birthing process works best when embraced as a normal experience and that women deserve the opportunity to have a supported, gentle, informed, and empowered birth experience.
