Debby Takikawa

A chiropractor by formal education, Debby Takikawa trained in pre- and perinatal psychology with Ray Castellino in 1994-96, worked in the BEBA Clinic,1996-1999 and went on to found the nonprofit organization, Beginnings, Inc. A Resource Center for Children and Families. (2000-2006) The purpose of the clinic was to serve babies, children and their families who were challenged by attachment issues, birth trauma, and other health concerns. The clinic was also a teaching facility serving intern candidates for the MFT program. The organization had a mandate for public outreach and education, and it was through this arm of the nonprofit that Debby set about to make the documentary film, What Babies Want.

Debby has traveled extensively with this film reaching audiences across the country and into Canada and Mexico. After seeing the responses the audiences have to What Babies Want, Debby’s latest endeavor has been to create the BABY! International Film Festival, a program of film festivals across the country. The purpose of these festivals is to give greater public exposure to the best films made about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and early childhood.

Debby is co author with Carrie Contey of the book, What Babies Want, CALMS for Infants. This book will be released in April of 2009 by Lifetime Media, a New York publishing company.

Debby lives on an organic flower and vegetable farm with her husband and her extended family.
